Brooke’s Mill: Rebranding One of Britain’s Oldest Businesses for the Next 500 Years

Brooke’s Mill isn’t just another commercial space.

It’s a site with over 450 years of history behind it, a place that has evolved from a working textile mill into a thriving business community in the heart of the Holme Valley.

When I was brought in to work on the rebrand, the challenge was clear:

How do you respect that level of heritage, while creating something that feels relevant, confident and built for the future?

The Challenge: From Historic Site to Modern Business Destination

While the mill had an incredible story, the brand didn’t fully reflect what it had become.

Today, Brooke’s Mill is home to over 40 businesses and hundreds of people working across creative, professional and education sectors. It’s active, growing, and full of energy.

But the identity still leaned heavily on the past.

The opportunity was to reposition Brooke’s Mill as:

  • A credible, professional business destination
  • A place that blends heritage with forward-thinking enterprise
  • A brand that could confidently attract the next generation of tenants

The Approach: Build a Brand That Balances Heritage and Progress

The direction wasn’t about wiping the slate clean.

It was about refining, strengthening and elevating what was already there.

Key considerations:

  • Retain a sense of legacy without feeling dated
  • Create a visual identity that works across signage, digital and print
  • Ensure consistency across every touchpoint

A big part of this was the reworking of the Brooke family crest, bringing it into a cleaner, more usable format while respecting its origins.

Alongside this, the wider identity system was developed to give the brand structure, clarity and presence across everything from the website to on-site signage.

The Outcome: A Brand That Reflects the Level They Operate At

The finished identity gives Brooke’s Mill:

  • A clear, confident visual presence
  • A system that works across real-world applications
  • A brand that feels aligned with the quality of businesses on site

It’s no longer just a historic mill.

It’s positioned as a modern business hub with heritage at its core.

Collaboration and Delivery

Projects at this level are always collaborative.

Alongside the brand development, the project included:

  • Website design and build
  • Digital marketing support
  • Content and media production

Working with trusted local partners ensured everything was delivered consistently and to a high standard.

The Bigger Picture

Rebrands like this aren’t just about how something looks.

They shape perception.

They influence who you attract, how you’re valued, and how confidently you move forward.

For Brooke’s Mill, this was about setting the foundation for the next phase of growth, as it moves towards an incredible milestone: 500 years in business.
